Santani
– Kandy,
Sri Lanka
Santani means “in harmony with” in Sanskrit - and it is precisely this principle that is at the heart of this extraordinary retreat.
Surrounded by untouched nature and based on the idea of an “architecture of silence”, indoor and outdoor spaces merge here to create a place of deep mindfulness, clarity and renewal. Santani is far more than a classic wellness resort – it is a space for conscious transformation and sustainable regeneration. As the only Sri Lankan hotel to be voted one of the “World’s Greatest Places” by TIME Magazine, Santani combines ancient Vedic healing traditions with modern health knowledge. Luxury is rethought here – as quiet, mindful care for body, mind and nature.
The Santani Wellness Resort is located on a 116-hectare former tea estate, nestled in dense forests around Kandy – far away from the noise, but still easily accessible. The accommodation was designed according to the traditional Sri Lankan concept of the ambalama – a resting place for travelers. The 20 minimalist chalets deliberately do without air conditioning and rely on natural ventilation to protect both health and the environment. The simple elegance of the interiors deliberately draws attention inwards – a place to arrive, let go and start afresh.
live
Santani pursues a holistic, sustainable approach to wellness, which the team refers to as Wellness 2.0. Here, modern medical knowledge is combined with millennia-old Sri Lankan Ayurveda and meditation practices. Each health program is individually tailored to your needs – be it for detox, stress reduction, hormonal balance or strengthening the immune system. The focus is on long-term effects: the impulses you receive here will accompany you far beyond your time at Santani – towards a more conscious and healthier lifestyle.
well-being
The Santani also sets new standards when it comes to food. The cuisine follows the Ayurvedic philosophy of Rasa Haya – the six tastes – and offers a balanced, taste-based diet that harmonizes body and mind. It is cooked with fresh, local ingredients and a deep understanding of the nourishing, healing effects of food. The dishes, served in the open restaurant with panoramic views, are light, inspiring and tailored to your personal needs – a treat for all the senses, without compromising on taste or health.
